Throughout my academic journey I have encountered a broad spectrum of subjects, distinct personalities, and various teaching styles. I've had to learn how to manage my time well in order to balance work, education, and life. Most importantly, I've gained knowledge about the fundamentals of ethics, the significance of diversity, and the critical function of communication throughout my studies. These are ideals that will continue to direct me throughout my career.
Communication
I've gained a thorough understanding of communication by taking a range of focused courses. I gained the necessary abilities from classes like "Conflict and Negotiation" to effectively resolve conflicts, identify common ground, and communicate in difficult situations. "Fundamentals of Speech Communication" gave students a strong basis in audience analysis, presentation strategies, and message development. I gave a lot of presentations and received insightful criticism. I further gained knowledge of important communication theories through "Communication Research Methods," and I put those ideas to use by examining a study on how impressions are formed on dating apps, emphasizing the significance of both textual and visual communication. My grasp of team dynamics, communication within organizational contexts, and leadership communication has improved as a result of taking the "Management and Communication" course.
Diversity
My perspective of diversity has been greatly expanded by classes like "Intercultural Communication" and "Sex and Gender in a Global World." Examining case studies and speaking with a Sunni Muslim woman offered personal knowledge of various cultural customs and viewpoints. Studying "World Literature" broadened my understanding of many forms of expression by introducing me to a variety of voices and storytelling customs. "Children's Literature" also stressed the significance of inclusive representation and successfully modifying communication for young, diverse audiences.
Ethics
My educational experience has given me a solid basis in moral communication techniques. Classes such as "Philosophy of Happiness" and "Issues in Philosophy" examined moral conundrums, the basis of various ethical frameworks, and the ways in which our communication choices affect our happiness and overall well-being. In "Argument and Advocacy," I improved my capacity to respectfully and erroneously argue a position while avoiding fallacies. Through role-playing exercises, "Mediation Facilitation and Dialogue" placed even more emphasis on ethical communication. It taught me how to control my prejudices and lead civil discussions about dispute resolution. Lastly, "Fundamentals of Business" broadened my perspective on ethics beyond communication by delving into subjects like environmental consciousness and the obligations of moral business conduct. I now approach communication with a strong ethical compass, taking into account the consequences of my words and deeds, thanks to this varied coursework.
